Yixian County Yixian is noted as "a haven of
peace", with footpath meandering, pavilions stretching,
tiny bridges across streams, folk customs honest,
sincere and unsophisticated, rural scenery of classic
elegance and peace. Yixian was initially built in the
Qin Dynasty wit a history of more than 2,000 years. Many
ancient villages are still well kept today in the place.
Totally about 4,000 ancient houses scatter in Yixian,
which is reputed as "The Residence Museum of the Ming
and Qing
Dynasties".
The Residence Museum of the Ming and
Qing Dynasty
There are 124 ancient
houses in Xidi Village which reflect the distinguished
features of the architecture of Hui school. In Hong
Village, hundreds of ancient houses formed an ox-shape
structure. The wonderful composition and beautiful
structure acclaim all these houses as the acme of
perfection. Yixian is also called "the Movie Town". Many
famous films, such as "Xiao Hua", "Ju Dou", were shot on
the land.
Tunxi
Tunxi City is surrounded by green
mountains, with beautiful rivers winding through or
around the city. Historically, it used to be an
important and prosperous city in south Anhui. Now it is
the site of the Huangshan municipal government. It is
located in the upper reaches of the Xin'an River and has
the title of "Half stret, half water". It has such a
flowering culture that there are lots of interesting
sights to be seen, of which the most famous are: the
Ancient Tunxi Street, the Memorial Hall of Daizhen, and
the former Residence of Cheng Dawei.

Street
The
Ancient Tunxi Street is a well-known and best preserved
commercial walking street. It is about 832 metres long
with shops ans stores on both sides. All the buildings
were built with brick and wood in a classical style: the
grey tiles, the horse head eaves, the white-washed wall.
All these make up an extremely quaint
feature.
The Chengs'
Residence
The Chengs' Residence is located in
the east of the Ancient Tunxi Street. It was built in
the Ming Dynasty. As a typical architecture of Hui
school, the Chengs' Residence is very splendid and
elegant, fully demonstratiing the richness of the owner.
It is dervedly architectural treasure of civilian houses
of the Ming Dynasty.
The Four
Treasures of the Study
Anhui is the hometown of the
well-known four treasures of the study, Inksticks
produced in Huizhou, inkstones in Shexian, writing
brushes and papers in Xuancheng have always been highly
treasured by men of letters at all
times.
