Historical
& Cultural Town -- Shexian County
Shexian County, the capital of the
ancient Huizhou Prefecture, is located at the southern
foot of Mt. Huangshan and in the upper reaches of the
Xin'an River. As soon as Huizhou Prefecture is
mentioned, people will think of Huizhou Businessmen who
held sway over China's commercial circles for some 400
years. Its substantial economy promoted the formation
and development of "Huizhou Culture", for example,
Xin'an painting school, Xin'an medicine, Huizhou
architecture, Hui opera, Hui cuisine. There still exist
in the county many a historic site. The civilian houses,
the memorial halls and the stone archways, great in
number and fine in architecture, are especially admired
by experts as the "Three Mansterpieces of Ancient
Architecture".
The Xuguo

The Xuguo Memorial
Archway, built in 1584, is the only eight-foot archway
in China. The imposing archway was carved all over the
body and the craftsmanship is very exquisite.
The Yuliang Dam
Yuliang Town is located on the
Xin'an River bank under the jurisdiction of Shexian
County. It is an important distributing centre for goods
and materials in ancient times. The Yuliang Dam in the
river was built with slabs in the Tang Dynasty. It is
the longest granite dam of the Xin'an River.
Huizhou
District
Located to the south of Mt.
Huangshan Scenic Spot, Huizhou District is directly
under the jurisdiction of Huangshan City. A great number
of scenic spots and historic sites spread all over this
district. The most famous are the row upon row of
ancient buildings in Huizhou style. More than 300 ones
have been well preserved up to now, among them are 35
ones of the Yuan and Ming Dynasties (1271-1644),
gathering in the well-known Chengkan Village. The
traditional Huui Cuisine, Hui inkstick, sculptures and
potted landscape of Hui inkstick, sculptures and potted
landscape of Hui school and Huangshan Maofeng Tea have
been keeping a unique charm until now.

Residences
The Qiankou Ancient
Residences consist of over ten architectures of
the Ming Dynasty. They show the features of the
residences of the Ming Dynasty.
The Baolun
Tower
The Baolun Tower, located in
Chengkan Village, was first built in the Ming Dynasty,
with an area of 7,000 square metres. It fully reflects
the representative features of the architecture of Hui
school.
The Native Land Garden of the
Chinese Nation
It is one of "the Native
Land Garden of the Chinese Nation", with an area of 9.6
million square inches, symbolizing the land of China. It
is being built in Huizhou District.
